Sharia court orders Kaduna teacher to end romantic affair with student

A Sharia court sitting in Magajin Gari of Kaduna state has ordered Yusuf Yusuf, a teacher, to end any kind of romantic relationship with Zainab Muhammad, his student.

NAN reports that during the ruling on Wednesday, Murtala Nasir, the judge, also ordered the teacher to pay N8,500 as compensation for the student’s medical bill after he assaulted her.

The ruling had come after both parties involved in the case opted for an out-of-court settlement.

Ibrahim Shuaibu, the prosecution counsel, had earlier told the court that Zainab reported her teacher at the Sabon Gari police station on September 5.

According to him, the development had come after Yusuf assaulted the student after he saw her with another man.

Shuaibu said the teacher had also injured Zainab in the face and her body in the ensuing drama.

The prosecution counsel said after an investigation was conducted into the matter, it was revealed that the teacher had a romantic relationship with Zainab.

This, the prosecution said, prompted the teacher’s anger after he saw the student with another man.

Shuaibu had argued that the teacher’s action contravened the provisions of sections 216 and 211 of Sharia penal code 2002.

During the trial, however, Yusuf pleaded not guilty to the assault charge against him.
