Two separate groups are reportedly staging protests in front of the Oyo state House of Assembly complex, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan. The Nation reports that one of the groups is opposing the nomination of the 27-year-old Oluwaseun Fakorede as a commissioner-nominee by the state governor, Seyi Makinde, while the other group is supporting his nomination as a commissioner. According to the newspaper, the anti-Fakorede group, which is made up of members and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are protesting Fakorede’s nomination because his father had allegedly defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC). They claimed Fakorede’s father worked against the success of the PDP at the just concluded general elections. The group, which comprises party leaders, elders and women carrying placards with various inscriptions, reportedly urged lawmakers not to screen Fakorede nor confirm his nomination. They added the nomination also negates the sharing arrangement by the leaders to cover the interest of all the regions and zones of the area.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Governor Makinde nominated Fakorede who is a graduate of Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University as one of the three commissioner nominees for screening. The governor sent the name of the OAU graduate alongside two other names, Alhaja Faosat Joke Sunni from Iseyin local government and Professor Raphael Afonja from Ogbomoso North local government, to the state House of Assembly for screening.
